On May 18, 2005 an exhibit on Celia Cruz "la guarachera de Cuba" was opened to the public at the National Museum of American History a part of the Smithsonian Institution located in in Washington DC.
The exhibit is open to the public free of charge every day between the hours of 10 AM and 5:30 PM every day except Christmas day.

The exhibit was made up of many of Celia's belongings such as her wigs, costumes, shoes and her dressing table. There were also many posters of her concert performances and record covers from her many musical releases. Every thing was behind glass like it usually is in a museum. The glass cases were covered with fingerprints. Celia Cruz was a famous artist but she always remained true to herself and accessible to her fans. I think the people were pressing up against the glass with a desire to touch her. I wished the museum curator would have exposed at least one of Celia's possessions so we the people could have torched it.
